This website is the on-line location of Citizens for Healthy Neighborhoods (CHN), a coalition of Athens neighborhoods who joined together to defend themselves from Athens Regional Medical Center's (ARMC' s) master plan that was submitted April, 1999. In its original form, ARMC's plan proposed the destruction of approximately 50 single family homes in the King Avenue, Belvoir Heights, and Talmadge Drive area and the addition of 4,000 additional parking places. This proposal was insensitive to the neighborhood, and out of sync with ACC's comprehensive land use plan. At present, CHN and ARMC have reached a compromise. As a result, both CHN and this website are fairly static at the moment. If you you would like to be added to our mailing list or have any interest in placing a link on this site send an email to neighbors@normaltown.com.

Citizen's for Healthy Neighborhoods (CHN) is a coalition of Neighborhood Associations which includes King, Cobbham, Oglethorpe, Boulevard, Sunset, Holman, Pulaski Heights, and Five Points.

While the current mission of CHN is to work together with representatives of Athens Regional Medical Center (ARMC) and the Athens-Clarke County Unified Government in the development of a 20-year plan, we believe the network of neighborhoods that this crisis has brought about can continue to work in the future on other ACC neighborhood issues.

Spare some change for change?

Until now, all of our expenses such as signs, flyers, and this website have been financed by the Cobbham and King a ssociations, and directly out of the pockets of a few of our members. Although we pride ourselves on being thrifty (just look at those biodegradable signs), more expenses are bound to crop up. CHN now has a bank account and PO box. If you f eel a surge of generosity that you simply can't contain, send a check (quickly) to: Citizens for Healthy Neighborhoods at P.O. Box 1165 Athens, GA 30603-1165.
